It's
true you are what you eat, what you consume directly effects your physical
and mental health, unfortunately this is sometimes overlooked by some
therapists.
You wouldn't put
cement in your car, so why should you put any thing less than top quality
fuel in your body.
A good diet
is important for good health. A healthy and varied diet can help to
maintain a healthy body weight, enhance general well-being and reduce the
risk of a number of diseases including heart disease, stroke, cancer,
diabetes and osteoporosis.
No single food can provide all the essential
nutrients that the body needs. Therefore, it is important to consume a
wide variety of foods to provide adequate intakes of vitamins, minerals
and dietary fibre.
Nutrition is a
complex subject, and many people have different dietary needs, but here
are a few guide lines.
Fats and sugars
You shouldn't ban them from your diet, just take care.
Eat less saturated fats, foods like; lard, butter, hard margarine,
cheese, whole milk and anything that contains these ingredients, such as
cakes, chocolate, biscuits, pies and pastries.
Eat more unsaturated fats, foods like; vegetable oils such as
sesame, sunflower, Soya and olive; oily fish, such as mackerel, sardines,
pilchards and salmon;
Don't skip
breakfast, eat 3 meals a day
Cut
out stimulants
Such as tea, coffee, cigarettes and alcohol
Try to eat
less salt, no more than 6g a day
Drink water
At least 1 litre a day, more if you are very active.
Eat plenty of
fresh fruit and vegetables
